Choosing a 12V/24V dual jump starter isn’t about comparing prices—it’s about disaster prevention versus a small insurance cost. One wrong choice could cost you tens or even hundreds of times.
Most common semi trucks use a 24 volt DC starting system, and the starting battery voltage is preferably 24V, unlike the 12 volt system that is often used in home cars, SUVs, boats, and motorcycles. 1. How to check your truck's voltage requirements?
Use a digital multimeter set to DC voltage. With the engine off, connect the red probe to the positive battery terminal and black probe to negative. A healthy 12V system should read 12.6+ volts, while a 24V system should show 25.2+ volts. Also check individual battery voltages in series-connected systems.
2. What happens if you jump start a 24v semi truck with 12V?
Using a 12V jump starter on a 24V truck won't work due to insufficient voltage. This may damage the electrical system. Use a dedicated 24V jump starter or connect two 12V batteries in series instead.
